Category: IP Master Clocks & Time Servers

IP Master Clocks and Time Servers keep clocks, servers, security systems, automation platforms, and networked devices aligned to a single trusted time source. They deliver centralised time synchronisation across your organisation, helping improve operational accuracy, event logging, compliance, and coordination across multiple systems and locations. Time servers distribute time using protocols such as NTP, SNTP, PTP, and in some applications IRIG, with protocol choice depending on the level of accuracy and the type of equipment being synchronised.

Master Clock vs Time Server

A master clock is typically used to control and distribute time to secondary clocks and related systems throughout a facility. A time server is designed primarily to deliver precise time across an IP network to devices such as servers, switches, security platforms, AV systems, and industrial controllers.

In many modern deployments, the line between the two is blurred. Some master clocks accept NTP input and can also serve time to other devices on the network, effectively acting as both a facility clock controller and a local NTP server

Choosing the Right Solution

The best solution depends on what you need to synchronise. If your priority is keeping wall clocks and facility time displays aligned, a master clock may be the right fit. If you need accurate network time for servers, security, and automation systems, a time server is often the better choice.

We supply a range of IP Master Clocks and Time Servers to suit schools, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and critical infrastructure projects.
